Boxabl Prefab Homes 2026: Compared with 5 Alternatives
If you want a small prefab home with a full kitchen and bathroom at the lowest published price per square foot, the Boxabl Casita Studio is the lowest of the 6 small units compared here: $60,000 for 361 square feet, or $166 per square foot, before shipping and installation. The next lowest of the 5 alternatives here is the Studio Home Summit 308, starting at $299 per square foot, also before installation. Boxabl is the only maker in this comparison that publishes an installed price, and its 722-square-foot One Bedroom is $195,000 turnkey, or $270 per square foot.

What Boxabl Sells
Boxabl builds 3 Casita models in its factory, folds each one for transport, and unfolds it on site.
Unit only. Boxabl says the buyer will “manage permits, site work, shipping, and installation.” Shipping is $8 to $15 per mile. The unit carries a 1-year manufacturer warranty and a 6-year extended warranty.
Turnkey. The turnkey price adds a site survey, engineering, the foundation, installation, shipping and the crane, water, electric, and sewer connections, and a final inspection. The turnkey price is $90,000 to $100,000 above the unit price.
Timing. Boxabl estimates the Casita is ready within 24 hours of delivery, and says an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) can be set up in as little as 2 months.
Certification. The model pages say the Casita “exceeds building code” and is seismic rated, wind rated, and energy rated. They do not name the code or the agency that certifies it.
Delivery area. Boxabl’s site lists Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Buyers in other states can start an order, and Boxabl tells them when their state is approved.
The company. Boxabl’s investor relations page says its stock trades on Nasdaq under the ticker BXBL, and it reports $235,000,000 raised.
The Ranked Table
Ranked on published base price per square foot, lowest first. The 5 alternatives are 308 to 500 square feet, each with a kitchen and bathroom.
No maker here publishes revenue figures. Revenue depends on your market, your nightly rate, and whether your county allows short stays.
What Each Price Leaves Out
Each alternative prices a different stage of the build, so each one leaves out different costs.
- Studio Home. The Summit 308 ships as panels that an installer assembles on site, typically in 2 to 3 weeks for a Summit with a kitchen and bathroom. Studio Home prepares a permit plan set showing compliance with the applicable codes.
- Liv-Connected. Liv-Connected says its factory-built homes can be built in as little as 12 weeks and installed in as little as a day once site preparation is complete, and that Conexus models need no crane. It names no certification.
- Samara. Samara lists Backyard as available in California and quotes as few as 8 weeks on site. The model page lists construction “certified by California for Wildland-Urban Interface compliance.”
- Wheelhaus. The Wedge is a park model recreational vehicle (RV). Wheelhaus says it is “a legally RV certified builder” and that manufacturing takes 90 to 120 days.
- Honomobo. The SO1 page does not say whether foundation, delivery, or installation is in the price. It says upgrades may be required to meet local energy codes.
You can price delivery from a published per-mile rate. As an example only, 500 miles at Boxabl’s $8 to $15 per mile is $4,000 to $7,500 on a unit-only order. The same 500 miles at Wheelhaus’s $6 to $8 per mile is $3,000 to $4,000. For the costs after delivery, read the cost of prefab homes.
What the Table Says
Boxabl’s larger Casita costs less per square foot than its Studio. The One Bedroom is $139 per square foot as a unit and $270 turnkey, against $166 and $416 for the Studio, because it doubles the floor area for $40,000 more as a unit and $45,000 more turnkey.
Compare Boxabl’s turnkey price with the others’ price plus an installation quote. Boxabl is the only maker here that publishes an installed price. Studio Home and Samara price their units “plus installation.” Ask each maker for an installed quote in writing before you compare.
Check the delivery area before the price. Boxabl ships to 16 states, and Samara lists Backyard as available in California. Wheelhaus ships nationwide and publishes a per-mile rate.
Get the certification in writing. Boxabl and Liv-Connected name no code on the pages linked, and the Wedge is certified as an RV. Ask your county whether each type can be a dwelling on your parcel.

- Price the ground. Run the lot through the site-prep cost estimator. Foundation, utilities, and delivery access are outside every price above except Boxabl’s turnkey price.
- Confirm the loan. Start with the lender locator. Tell the lender whether the unit is a factory-built home or a park model RV, and ask how it finances that type.
- Read the zoning. Use the zoning rules guide before you buy. Check the minimum dwelling size and whether short stays are allowed.
