Airbnb’s Upcoming New Feature: Airport Pickups ( and maybe Flights?!)

March 3, 2026

Thought 2026 was going to be chill after a rollercoaster of a year in 2025 for Airbnb hosts? Yeah, think again.

Airbnb is quietly testing a new service for guests: scheduled airport pickups.

The company is piloting private car transfers in select cities across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. It's a small experiment for now, but it might hint at even bigger moves hosts can expect from Airbnb in the future.

Here's everything you need to know as a short-term rental host.

Airbnb’s Announcement: Airport Pickups

Airbnb wants to be an AI-driven travel concierge for guests the moment they land. And it's getting closer to that vision.

Airbnb confirmed it's testing a "scheduled private car transfer service" in several regions outside North America. An Airbnb spokesperson said:

"We are regularly testing new product updates, categories and initiatives, in order to provide the best possible experience for our community. As part of that, we're piloting a scheduled private car transfer service in select cities."

This followed comments from CEO Brian Chesky during a recent earnings call:

"We're also starting to test new services like grocery delivery and airport pickup to make each trip better from the very beginning."

Some hosts already offer airport pickups as an add-on. But Airbnb is stepping in to offer a standardized, bookable service directly through the platform.

Why This Matters: All-in-One Apps, OTA Wars & Flights

This update is about more than airport rides. Airbnb is working towards being the only app travelers need from start to finish.

Right now, planning a trip usually means juggling multiple tabs—Google Flights, Uber, Airbnb, maybe a restaurant booking app or one for activities and experiences.

Airbnb wants you to land on their platform and get everything you need.

Book your flight. Book your stay. Book your ride from the airport. Schedule grocery delivery so the fridge is stocked when you arrive. Or book a local experience to add to your itinerary.

All in one place. All with a few clicks.

But this is also about catching up to the competition.

Booking.com has been ahead here for years. Their parent company, Booking Holdings, has built an empire that lets travelers book flights, cars, and accommodations all in one place. It's a seamless experience that Airbnb simply hasn't been able to offer—yet.

Airport pickups are the first step. And if this test goes well? Flights feel like the obvious next move.

Imagine getting destination inspiration from Airbnb's AI, then booking your flight, your stay, and your ride in one seamless checkout. That's the vision.

What This Means for Hosts like You

Based on Host Camp's experience working with thousands of hosts, here's how this shift could affect your business:

1. Higher guest expectations

If Airbnb starts offering airport pickups (and maybe eventually flights), guests will expect a seamless end-to-end experience. That means your listing needs to match the polish of a platform that now handles transportation. Think: clearer check-in instructions, faster responses, and hospitality that starts before they land. Airbnb is all about guest convenience, and your Airbnb needs to match that—not break the illusion and become the weak link.

2. Hotels becoming the standard

Airbnb is now listing boutique hotels alongside homes. And with seamless airport pickups and more hotel-inspired features coming soon, guests will expect hotel-level professionalism, precision, and cleanliness from hosts. This move is another reminder to sharpen your game. Yes, it's crucial to create exciting, unique experiences, but you also need to nail all the basics that hotels get right.

3. Rethink your upsells

If you're already offering airport pickups as one of your main upsells and an additional source of income, demand may slow—or you might have to become more competitive. What could differentiate your pickups from Airbnb's? Start thinking of other creative upsells your guests will appreciate that they can't get anywhere else. 4. Optimize for international travelers

With big events like the World Cup and Olympics bringing more international travelers to the U.S., features like Airbnb airport pickup are making things easier for them—and targeting them specifically. If you're in a market that attracts a mix of domestic and international travelers, these upcoming events and moves like this one from Airbnb are the signal to ask yourself: how can you improve your guest experience for international travelers and make yourself the top choice?

A Few Last Thoughts

Airbnb's airport pickup test is still in the early days. But if the past year is any indication, Airbnb moves pretty fast when they've struck gold. If the test goes well, airport transfers and pickups could be officially rolled out very soon.
