The Daily Host Friday Newsletter #15

April 24, 2026

We've got a real good deal for you in this email, and the price just dropped by $190K.

Plus STR secrets from luxury travelers, sneaky tax tech, and an insider supplier list we're leaking to the public.

We won't keep you waiting. Let's jump in.

By The Numbers

Data...and what you should do about it.

49%

That's the percentage of people who want to sell their homes and move in 2026, according to a Home Ownership Trends report. Now that sounds like an incredible opportunity for investors, but there is some fine print. And it's the why.

93% of respondents admitted they're moving because they're scared extreme weather will damage their homes.

Florida (58%) and California (52%) top the list of states homeowners are avoiding because of extreme weather, followed by Hawaii (24%), Louisiana (22%), Texas (21%), and Alaska (21%).

This doesn't rule out finding a good deal here that pencils out. But investors do need to factor in rising insurance premiums.

Need a refresher on STR costs to help you run the numbers? Read our quick STR budget guide so surprise expenses don't derail your revenue.

We Read the Minds of 2,000 Luxury Travelers. Here's What They Really Want.

What's the difference between an Airbnb that feels overpriced and one that feels totally worth it? Luxury travelers know the answer. And researchers surveyed over 2,000 of them to find out.

When asked what matters most when booking a luxury trip, 34% ranked comfort as their number one priority. That's more than double the next closest category.

Here are the full rankings:

  • Comfort (relaxed, convenient travel): 34%
  • Money (highest quality money can buy): 15%
  • Uniqueness (unforgettable experiences): 12%
  • Time (enough to immerse, not rush): 11%
  • Service (every need handled): 10%

What does comfort mean? Relaxed, frictionless travel. Fewer complications. More reassurance.

Beyond comfort, 28% of respondents said they are seeking more meaningful or cultural experiences. And 23% said they're less impressed by status symbols and more focused on convenience and value.

Luxury hospitality spending is on track to hit $390 billion by 2028. Want your slice of that pie?

This Software Knows You've Been Dodging Your STR Taxes

Washington County, Pennsylvania, is launching new tech that can track who is paying the state's 6% hotel occupancy tax and who's...flying under the radar.

Right now, only around 35 short-term rentals are registered and paying the tax. But the system claims it can find over 300 STRs operating without paying. That's between $300,000 and $500,000 in tax revenue they're losing to sneaky or uninformed hosts.

If this tech works, it's only a matter of time before other counties and cities adopt it. Pay your hotel and STR taxes. Claiming you "did not know" won't work as an excuse.

This Supplier List Took Forever to Create...But We're Leaking It

Prefabs are quietly crushing it on Airbnb. Lower build costs. Superfast turnarounds.  Unique designs that stand out. Data shows tiny homes like prefabs can achieve up to 35% higher occupancy rates in nature-focused locations.

But the prefab world is crawling with scams. That's why Kai spent months vetting over 50 prefab companies. And he rated and ranked the top picks for STR investors.

His top picks include:

  • A Canadian company building flat-pack cabins like Ikea for beautiful homes
  • An Estonian brand delivering fully turnkey tiny homes in a single day
  • Amish-crafted A-frames with insane build quality
  • A UK-based company that scored a perfect 10

Real host strategies you can steal (tested in the wild)

What Airbnb's Most Wishlisted Stays Tell Us About 2026 Guests

Airbnb recently released its most wishlisted stays across the US. No crazy builds or loud gimmicks. (Okay, there is a home shaped like a camera and a steel sculpture cabin.) But the trend is clear. It's all about nature, comfort, and escaping ordinary life.

Take the Hilltop Treehouse in Iowa. No WiFi. No cell reception. Just a lavender farm and silence. Or the Zion A Frame in Utah, where a floor-to-ceiling window wall disappears into the deck for unobstructed canyon views. Then there's the Tucson Bottle House, walls made of thousands of glass bottles and rocks, where light pours through like a kaleidoscope.

So what do all these picks tell us about what makes a wishlist-worthy stay?

Here are the patterns that emerged.

Unique does not mean what you think it means.
It is not about crazy decor or wild amenities. It is about unique experiences that feel completely different from day-to-day life.

Nature is not nature without immersion.
Floor-to-ceiling windows, outdoor showers, beds that face the view. Guests want to feel immersed even when they're indoors.

Unconventional structures win.
Glass octagons. Earth houses. Camera-shaped cabins. Futuritic prefabs. Guests love unique architecture, even when it is simple and minimalistic.

Comfort is king.
In every single wishlisted stay, guests raved about one basic thing: the beds, linens and comfy furniture.

Disconnection is not a limitation, it's a feature.

Several of the most wishlisted stays had no WiFi and no cell service. Guests are actively seeking permission to disconnect.

Minimalist neutral decor is having a moment. Guests are loving spaces that feel calm, relaxing, and blend in with the nature outside.

The Lens Lodge: Design That Blends Function and Experience

The Lens Lodge is shaped like a camera. That's pretty cool. But sleeping inside a lens is not just a gimmick. Guests get to sleep in a circular cylinder facing the gorgeous scenery. That's functional design that creates an immersive experience. A genius move and a new way to look at Airbnb architecture and design.
