ICYMI—Albuquerque hosts just scored a quiet but major win.
On Monday, the Albuquerque City Council voted down a proposed short-term rental limit bill that would’ve added new restrictions for hosts across the city.
The proposal wasn’t an outright ban—but it would have required at least 100 feet of distance between short-term rentals, down from an earlier version that proposed a much stricter 330-foot buffer.
Owner-occupied, single-room rentals would’ve been exempt.
In the end, the bill failed by a razor-thin 5–4 vote.

During public comment, local renters, homeowners, and STR operators spoke out, explaining how limits like this would directly reduce their income and hurt local tourism.
One speaker summed it up perfectly:
“If you vote for this, if we continue to limit opportunities to make income for everybody—from young homeowners renting out a room to retirees relying on STR income—the impact is going to be felt exponentially.”
