Airbnb Rehab: How to Turn a Viral UFO House from 4.67 Stars to a 5-Star, 2X-ADR Destination Brand
The UFO House Is Famous. But We Think It's Playing Too Small.
That UFO flying saucer you see up there is an Airbnb.
A 1970s Futuro pod fiberglass spaceship parked in the South Wales countryside, steps from the beach. It's so unique and wildly popular that it's the star of Airbnb's OMG! Vacation Rentals page.
Impressive, right?
But here's the thing...We think there's still room for improvement. And a lot of money on the table.
So this week we're doing an Airbnb Rehab—taking an iconic stay and mapping out exactly how we'd upgrade it to boost revenue, ratings, and guest experience.
First up: the UFO Futuro Flying Saucer Airbnb.
The Problem: A Viral Unique Stay with a 4.67-Star Rating?
Let's start with what's working. This place has serious advantages
It's a literal UFO (you cannot scroll past it). It's perfectly located in scenic rural Wales, steps from the beach. It's part of a compound of quirky stays (private jet, train, submarine) and it's already a viral sensation
So why the 4.67? And why are guests consistently complaining about value? Because sometimes novelty does all the heavy lifting. And novelty fades fast when the fundamentals slip.
The reviews tell the story: outdated interiors, lack of privacy, and a feeling that the price tag doesn't match the experience.
Here's how we'd fix it.
7 Upgrades To Unlock 2X ADRs and 5-Star Potential
1. Go All In on Immersion
The UFO shape is incredible, but inside, the theme isn't bold enough to tell a story that guests want to be part of. Who lived here? Human or alien? What's their mission?
The Fix: Add a retro control panel, custom spaceship lighting, or a "captain's log" guest book with hidden details. Make every detail part of the immersion. And don't be afraid of bold colors and textures.
2. Build Kid-Friendly Play Zones
Families love this place. But aside from the beach, there's not much for kids to do on-site.
The Fix: Dedicate part of the property to a UFO-themed play area, like a mini "crash site" playground, alien climbing structures, a space scavenger hunt. When kids are entertained, parents leave 5-star reviews.
3. Solve the Privacy Issue + Upgrade the Bathroom Experience
Multiple unique stays on one property are great for revenue. But guests don't want to feel like they're camping in someone's backyard with zero privacy. And the biggest friction point in reviews? The shared shower.
The Fix: Install privacy screens, fencing, or hedges so each unit has its own defined zone with private amenities. Create a private outdoor shower or spa-like bathroom pod that feels intentional, not like a compromise. That's how you boost value ratings.
4. Level Up the Outdoor Experience
They've got tons of outdoor space, but not much to do outside. The backyard is a goldmine and their biggest missed opportunity.
The Fix: Add a stargazing deck (perfect for a UFO theme), a private fire pit, outdoor games, a hot tub, or sauna. Invest in outdoor decor and themed murals. Every square inch should sell an experience and boost your ADR.
5. Make Pet-Friendly Actually Pet-Friendly
Pets are allowed, but reviewers mention no poo bins or waste bags. The pet-friendly amenities are missing.
The Fix: Add things like a dog-washing station, throw in some treats in your welcome basket. Small touches that signal you're the best place to visit with dogs.
6. Upgrade Your Photos to Sell the Experience
Current photos show the UFO shape, awesome. But they don't show what it feels like to stay here.
The Fix: Add lifestyle shots. A family playing outdoor games. Kids discovering the "crash site." A couple stargazing on the deck. Guests laughing around the fire pit. Sell an experience, because experiences get booked.
7. Build a Real UFO Brand with a Direct Booking Website
This property is begging to be a brand. Right now, it lives on Airbnb. That means Airbnb owns the guest relationship.
The Fix: Build a simple direct booking site. Tell the full story. Capture emails. Offer a discount for booking direct. When you own the relationship, you keep more revenue and build real brand equity.

This is a great and iconic stay. But with a few key changes and investments, it could grow into a highly profitable destination brand.
Optimizing your Airbnb is never done. Listen to your guests. Find out what they want, then exceed their expectations.
And lastly? Don't forget to let yourself (and your guests) have fun with your theme.
