A-Frame Prefab Homes and Kits 2026: Priced by Kit Level

If you are pricing an A-frame kit by the square foot, the cheapest is the Avrame Trio 150: $69,700 for the Structural Kit at 1,600 square feet, which is $44 per square foot. The Barn Yard's 216-square-foot A-frame is $37,995 and includes the most in the kit, with roofing, insulation, siding, a door, a window, and a heat pump in the kit. Zook Cabins delivers a finished 400-square-foot A-frame and does not publish its price.
‍
This comparison rests on 2 published figures: the kit price and the maker's own stated floor area. No maker publishes revenue or occupancy figures, so nothing here is ranked on what a unit earns. In an A-frame, the sloped roof makes part of the floor too low to stand on, and no maker below separates usable floor area from total floor area. Ask for that split before a deposit.
The Comparison Table
The Backcountry Hut price is the maker's own conversion of $80,580.20 CAD. The maker says transactions are in Canadian dollars and prices exclude permits and taxes. The Barn Yard lists labor to build the cabin, site work, permits, electrical, and appliances as excluded. Zook says its pricing includes delivery, and it does not sell park models in Alaska or Hawaii.
DEN is not in the table. Its A-frame collection is 8 plan sets from $299, and none of the 14 models on its prefab kit page is an A-frame.
Avrame, Priced at Each of 4 Kit Levels
Avrame's "starting at" price is the Structural Kit alone. Its budget worksheets, dated June 2024, price 3 more levels on top. For the Duo and Trio models in the table:
The Shell Kit adds roof, gable wall, and subfloor sheathing. The Exterior Kit adds roof underlayment, building wrap, standing seam metal roofing, siding, and 1 skylight. The Interior Kit adds interior framing and wall paneling.
The same worksheets mark these items "Client Sourced" at every level: exterior doors, insulation, the heating and cooling system, electrical, plumbing, the foundation, and all labor. Windows are an Exterior Kit add-on or client sourced. A Trio 100 bought at all 4 levels for $110,550 still arrives without an exterior door or insulation.
The smallest Duo, the 300-square-foot Duo 57, starts at $22,675. The Solo series is sold as an add-on only, so it is not a stand-alone rental unit.
Costs Avrame Publishes Outside the Kit
Avrame's FAQ lists 4 more figures.
- Shipping. $3.25 per mile from Salt Lake City, Utah, which Avrame estimates at $2,200 to $7,800 per delivery. As an example only, an 800-mile delivery is $2,600.
- Drawings. An initial payment of $3,500 is due at the start of the drawing phase, and custom drafting is estimated at $150 per hour.
- State plan fees. Avrame's kit page adds $5,000 for a California plan set and $1,450 for a Washington plan set.
- Lead time. After permit approval, you reserve a delivery week at least 8 weeks out, with a $1,000 non-refundable hold.
Avrame says permitting is your responsibility.
What the Table Says
Compare A-frame kits at the same kit level. The Trio 100 is $53,825 as a Structural Kit and $110,550 with all 4 levels. Ask every maker for a quote at the level that includes a roof.
A larger A-frame costs less per square foot. At the Structural Kit level, the Trio 150 is $44 per square foot, the Trio 100 is $45, the Duo 120 is $57, and the Duo 75 is $67.
Check the kit for windows, doors, and insulation. The Barn Yard kit is $176 per square foot and includes all 3, plus a heat pump. No Avrame kit level includes doors or insulation, and windows are an add-on.
‍
Get the crew size in writing. Backcountry Hut is the only maker here that publishes one, at 4 to 5 people for under a week. Avrame gives assembly in days but no crew size. The Barn Yard publishes neither.
Before You Order
3 checks before a deposit, in order.
- Price the ground. Run the lot through the site-prep cost estimator. No price above includes a foundation, septic, or utility connections. For the full stack of costs after the unit, see the cost of prefab homes.
- Confirm the loan. Start with the lender locator. A kit you assemble yourself is financed differently from a finished home, and a park model is financed differently from both.
- Read the zoning. Use the zoning rules guide before you buy. Ask the county how it classifies a park model and whether a loft counts as a bedroom.
